Base currency is the accounting currency of the fund. Trading currency is what your broker settles in. A fund can report in dollars and still have a euro line on XETRA; buy that line and no conversion happens, whatever the factsheet says at the top.

How it works

DEGIRO charges 0.1% whenever a trade settles in a currency other than the euro. Most ETFs sold in Europe have a euro-denominated share line on XETRA or Euronext alongside the dollar one; trading that line settles in euros and the charge never arises. The fund's own base currency is irrelevant — only the currency of the line you trade counts.

What it assumes

Listings and tickers are verified as of the noted date and brokers occasionally change which venues they route to. Confirm the line on your broker's own platform before trading, and note that avoiding the conversion charge does not remove currency risk: the underlying companies still earn in their own currencies.
